More stuff from scratch...

February 24th, 2007 at 11:33 pm

I have two new recipes to replace things that I previously made from mixes - hot mulled cider and hot chocolate. Both are better than their pre-made counterparts.
A recap of the things I can make from scratch (I'm just so dang proud of myself):
granola/granola bars
cakes/muffins/pies
hot chocolate/cider
spaghetti sauce
soups and stews
cornbread
biscuits
pancakes
yogurt
All stuff I have bought mixes for in the past...of course, some things I still use mixes for (i.e. cakes), but only when it's a good price. I like knowing that I can do any of this from scratch, so I'm not stuck having to run out for mixes all the time.
Next on the list: whole wheat crackers!

    mulled cider, try this:

    4 cups cider
2 cups cranberry wine or cranberry juice
    4 cinamon sticks
    4 whole cloves
    pinch of cinamon
    orange slices added to taste

don't put the wine in it if kids will drink it...

Ooh, the cranberry sounds good. Mine was basically orange slices, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, and brown sugar, simmered on the stove for about 15 minutes then transferred to the crockpot to keep warm. I'll try the cranberry juice next time!

Great job Jodi! You should be proud of yourself! And think of how much healthier everything is for your boys!

I added brown sugar too... and no need to move froms tove to crockpot, I do it all in the crockpot.
