Blows to the budget

February 27th, 2008 at 02:11 am

$18 copay for ds2 (ear infection)
$18 copay for DH (possible strep)
$10 antibiotics for both
Ugh! We were doing so well too. Granted, it's not much, but it's almost $50 that we won't be putting toward our Roth this month.
I am eating like a maniac. If this keeps up, I might blow the grocery budget too Smile Today's menu:
breakfast:two bowls of Wheaties with strawberries
2nd breakfast: bowl of oatmeal with 1/2 banana
lunch: frozen meal, chicken with potatoes
snack: handful of almonds and cheese stick
2nd snack (about 4 pm is where the willpower breaks down - yesterday it was -gasp- friend Spam on white bread! -which tasted SO good): Doritos/corn chips snack mix
dinner: steak, two piles of mashed potatoes, asparagus
dessert: butterscotch pudding

I said at the beginning of this pregnancy that I would not gain 55 pounds, like I did with my last two..but I'm so hungrrrryyyyyyyy.......I think I need to start exercising or this is going to be disastrous.

Humm, it's been awhile since I had my two boys, I remember eating quite a bit, but back then they never told me gaining 55 lbs wasn't the healthiest thing to do (I gained about this much with my first), but that does seem like alot of food. Can you talk to your doctor and ask him/her about this? I know even now (not being pregs) that sometimes I feel like I need to eat and eat, but I have realized it's because I wasn't getting enough protein, your two breakfasts don't have much protein, why don't you try a few pieces of toast, warm, with peanut butter, maybe and egg or two, for snacks later in the day instead of spam? Or a few pieces of deli style turkey, chicken? Lower in calories and sodium. I suppose as long as your doctor says everything your eating and weight gain is ok/consistence for your body type/frame, you shouldn't be to concerned.

I know, the Spam is absolutely awful. I never would have eaten it if DH had not opened up a can for lunch and I saw it sitting in the fridge!
I just finished an omelette with zucchini, potatoes, and cheese for breakfast...let's see if that hold me over (but if not, I sent my DH on a bagel run yesterday- my first real "craving"!). I tend to eat three good meals with three snacks even when not prego (thanks to my South Beach days), but my meals and snacks now are larger - and more frequent. I do remember eating roughly every two hours with my first two pregnancies. I am trying to hard to eat healthy, but when you're pregnant...sometimes you just have to eat what tastes good...sigh. Thanks for the input! I've got some natural p.b. in the fridge and I can pick up some whole grain bread.

Ya, that spam is very tempting, hee, sounds like your off to a good start today, hope more protein does help and eating every few hours will be good for you, humm bagels, great, now I'm hungry! Good luck, sounds like your on the right track, and having a new baby to welcome into the family is for sure worth some weight gain. : )

does not sound like too much to me, but not great items

try: protein! kills appetite and is nutritious
    nuts, protein bars, etc.

try: lots of fruit, make smoothies with yogurt
try: lots of veges, with yogurt to dip

    I have two kids too.
