need help with a printer problem

January 26th, 2007 at 03:41 am

Not sure where to go with this, so I thought I would pick the minds of anyone who might read this.

It's not really a money question, unless you consider that if I do not get it resolved, there is a high probability of me throwing an expensive printer/scanner/fax/copier machine through one of many six foot tall windows in this room. Not to mention that if I did this, my parents would probably kick me out and I would need to start paying rent somewhere. And if I had to move out, I would have to buy a new computer with a...printer/scanner/fax/copier machine to go with it. Please, someone help me and save me from myself.
For some reason, our printer got stuck on a document several days ago. We tried to delete the stuck document from the printer queue, but no luck. It says it is deleting, but it never deletes, meaning we can no longer print anything as any document gets stuck in the queue behind the one that won't delete. We have tried plugging and unplugging the machine, turning the computer on and off, uninstalling and reinstalling the printer (it won't uninstall due to the stuck document). I am about to tear my hair out in frustration. Any help?

my HP did that once. I called the 800 number with no luck, but then went to a live tech support chat off their website. I can't remember what it was they had me do, but it fixed it. That was about a year ago, long after the warrenty was expired, no charge.

I don't know muc about computers but when ever things get stuck I often use the "alt, delete and control" buttons to end the program. I am not sure if this is safe or not but knock on wood I have not had any problems...good luck

Have you tried turning the computer off and back on? I would also turn off the printer as well. Pull the plug if you have to. Hopefully, that will be enough to fix it.

Ok, problem is resolved, although I have no idea how. Last night, before I wrote that post, I unplugged the printer and detached it from the computer. After I hooked everything back up, that darned document was still there in the queue (and I think I heard it laugh at me, but I'm not sure). I said the heck with it, wrote this post, and went to bed.
When I came back this morning, I logged on to see the suggestions. I pulled up the Hewlett Packard support page, as suggested above, and apparently that was enough to scare the printer into action, because when I went back into the control panel and reinstalled the computer (which it previously would not let me do), the document disappeared. At least I didn't have to throw it through the window Smile Thanks!

I know this is too late but often unplugging the machine and leaving it unplugged for several hours will make it go away. Just unplugging it and then replugging it in a fairly short amount of time is not enough to wipe the memory. That is something we had to deal with a lot with our old multi-purpose printer. Also one of the reasons we have seperate machines for printing and scanning now.
