wasted day

June 16th, 2006 at 03:10 am

I had such a headache when I got home from work today I ditched the kids on my wonderful DH, who had already had them all day, and went to bed. I tried to get up after an hour, but ended up back in bed (with trips to the bathroom...ick) for several more hours. Headache, nausea, etc. Happens quite a bit - I guess you might call them migraines. Starts with a headache and if I don't get Tylenol and sleep, they morph into a full-body dysfunction. So anyway, at about 9 pm tonight, I started to feel better. I supposed I ought to get these headaches checked out at some point.
So consequently, I got absolutely nothing accomplished today. I did watch a lot of t.v. though. I rarely do that anymore. The worst part is that DH ordered dinner out tonight and I didn't even get to enjoy it because the smell of food was making me ill. I will get steak for lunch tomorrow now though Smile
Tomorrows goals: Deposit two checks in bank, take out some cash (not much, but I haven't had any in my wallet for over a week now). Finish transferring my paperwork over to the file cabinet.
Here's hoping tomorrow is healthy and happy for everyone!

Migraine history in your family? My mother had them, now my older sister and I have them. I was diagnosed at 26 after a blood vessel burst. The older I got the longer they lasted.

It took at least 10 years to figure out my triggers. Now I avoid them.

My understanding doctor gives me pain pills, muscle relaxants and 10 sleeping pills a month (since sleep deprivation causes them). I get them anywhere from 1-3 times a month, but have not had one in about six weeks. I have two new samples to try too, Relpax and Maxalt since Imitrex causes rebound headaches.

My other's went away after menopause and hopefully mine will too.

Try ice or heat on your neck, an ergometric pillow (my pain is in the base of my skull radiating up to the left temple area). Also get a bucket and stay in bed. I passed out once jumping up to get to the bathroom and woke up with DH shaking me, telling me to spit it out. I had gotten had vomited while passed out and was choking. (Not to be graphic or anything, that was just very, very scary).

Be sure to avoid MSG and the other common trigger foods listed on the internet at various sites. My food triggers are (not every time I eat them, but enough) yogurt, bananas, red wine, theatre popcorn (I know that sounds bizarre), pinto beans, fresh baked bread (the yeast), fresh oranges/orange juice and of course the biggee that I rarely have one bite of.... CHOCOLATE!

Good luck figuring it out Jodi. I hope this info helps you.

thanks, Homebody. Never really found a food trigger, although I do have enviromental triggers. I always got sick as a child when I was active in high heat. It would start with a headache and progress to...you know, the bucket. Sometimes I still get sick in the heat, other times certains strong perfumes can get to me. Even being in the car for a long time on hot days - it's something with the air in the car, I really don't know, but the headache starts in my sinuses and spreads from there. Very bizarre. Sinus medicine with Tylenol used to take care of it - now it often doesn't touch it. I really think I should get myself checked out! Thanks again for the hints and taking the time to respond. Smile
